1. Who we are
Markdown Monk is a free, browser-based text conversion tool available at markdownmonk.com. The site is operated by an individual publisher. For privacy-related enquiries, contact: zoltan.tamas@marketing17.co
2. What data we collect
Markdown Monk does not collect or store any personal data directly. We do not have user accounts, login forms, or contact forms. All text conversions happen entirely in your browser — no content you enter is ever sent to our servers.
However, by visiting this site you may be subject to data collection by third-party services we use (see Section 4).
3. Cookies and local storage
We use a single item of browser local storage:
- mm-consent — stores your cookie consent choice ("granted" or "denied"). This is a functional necessity, not a tracking cookie. It is never transmitted to any server.
Beyond this, cookies are set by third-party advertising services (see Section 4) only if you have given your consent.
4. Third-party services — Google AdSense
We display advertisements through Google AdSense (Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). If you accept advertising cookies, Google may set cookies on your device to serve personalised ads based on your browsing history.
Google AdSense cookies include: __gads, _gcl_au, and others. These may persist for up to 13 months.
Google's processing of this data is governed by Google's own Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
If you reject advertising cookies, Google Consent Mode v2 signals a denied status to Google — no advertising cookies will be set and no personal data will be used for ad personalisation.
5. Your rights under GDPR
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights:
- Right to access — request a copy of data held about you
- Right to erasure — request deletion of your data
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Right to withdraw consent — withdraw cookie consent at any time (see below)
- Right to lodge a complaint — with your national supervisory authority
Since Markdown Monk does not collect personal data directly, most requests will be directed to Google. To exercise rights over Google's data, visit myaccount.google.com.
6. How to withdraw consent
To change or withdraw your cookie consent, clear your browser's local storage for markdownmonk.com (DevTools → Application → Local Storage → delete mm-consent). On your next visit the consent banner will reappear.
You can also opt out of personalised Google advertising at: adssettings.google.com
7. Data retention
We do not retain personal data. Your consent preference is stored locally in your browser and is not transmitted to us.
Google AdSense cookies may persist for up to 13 months in accordance with Google's data retention policies.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
