Why a plain, structured CV helps in clinical support roles

Medical assistant postings attract high application volume and are screened quickly, often by software first. A clean single-column document with obvious headings gets read; a designed template frequently does not.

What practice managers check first

Certification status. CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA) or CMAA, with the certifying body named and the credential current. Practices frequently filter on this outright, and the acronym alone is ambiguous without the body.

The clinical-to-administrative split. Medical assisting spans both, and practices hire for a particular balance. Say roughly how your time divided, and name both sides: rooming and vitals on one hand, scheduling and insurance verification on the other.

Specialty exposure. Family medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, dermatology, cardiology, OB/GYN. Specialty-specific procedures transfer directly and shorten training time.

Volume. Patients roomed per day, providers supported, panel size. This is quick to state and immediately calibrating.

Certifications and skills MA screens match

  • Credentials: CMA, RMA, CCMA, AAMA, AMT, NHA, BLS, CPR certification
  • Clinical: vital signs, phlebotomy, venepuncture, injections, immunisations, EKG, specimen collection, sterilisation, autoclave, wound care, rooming, medical history intake
  • Administrative: appointment scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorisation, medical records, referrals, ICD-10 and CPT coding, HIPAA
  • Systems: Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, athenahealth, NextGen, Practice Fusion

What holds an MA application back

Listing tasks without numbers. “Took vital signs” is assumed. “Roomed 35–40 patients daily across three providers” tells a manager you can handle their pace.

Naming no EHR. It is one of the first things checked, because it determines how long onboarding takes.

Omitting the certifying body. “Certified Medical Assistant” without AAMA, AMT or NHA is genuinely ambiguous to a reviewer.

Skipping the patient-facing skills. De-escalating an anxious patient, working with interpreters, or supporting elderly patients are the qualities practice managers most often say they cannot train.

No HIPAA or compliance mention. Expected, and its absence is noticed.

Is this medical assistant resume template free? +

Yes. Edit it in your browser and export to PDF, DOCX, or HTML with no account, no watermark, and no usage limit.

What should a medical assistant resume highlight? +

Both clinical and administrative skills, plus certifications. Clinics want an MA who can room patients and run the desk — the sample splits Skills to show both.

Where do certifications go? +

In a dedicated section, as the template does. CMA/RMA and BLS/CPR are often required and screened for, so make them easy to find.
