Why a version-controlled CV suits channel owners

Managers apply into roles with quite different shapes: some want a hands-on lead, others a channel owner with budget and headcount. Markdown makes it cheap to keep two honest variants and export whichever the posting calls for.

What hiring committees look for in an SEO manager

The step from specialist to manager is a step from doing to owning, and the screen is looking for evidence of the second.

Channel ownership. Total organic revenue or pipeline you were accountable for, the size of the site, and how organic sat against paid, email and direct. Managers are hired to own a number, so name the number.

People and budget. Team size, whether you hired, agencies and freelancers managed, and the budget you controlled. This is the clearest signal separating a manager from a senior specialist, and it is frequently missing.

Strategy that survived contact with a business. Roadmaps are easy; getting engineering time and a content budget is not. Evidence that you won internal buy-in — a migration you got prioritised, a content programme you got funded — is what the role is actually about.

Reporting upward. Forecasting organic growth, defending it in a planning cycle, and explaining a downturn to executives. The last of these matters most, and almost nobody puts it on a résumé.

Ownership language manager screens look for

  • Ownership: organic revenue, pipeline contribution, forecasting, budget management, channel strategy, roadmap
  • Programme: content strategy, editorial calendar, site migration, international and hreflang, SEO governance
  • Leadership: team leadership, hiring, agency management, stakeholder management, cross-functional partnership with engineering and content
  • Measurement: GA4, Search Console, Looker Studio, attribution modelling, incrementality

What holds managers back at the screen

Writing like a specialist. If every bullet is a tactic you executed personally, the résumé argues for the job you already have.

No team or budget detail. A manager résumé without headcount or spend reads as a title without the scope behind it.

Growth claims without market context. If the category grew 40% and you grew 45%, saying so is more impressive than a bare number, because it shows you think in terms of share.

Silence on failure. A traffic loss you diagnosed and recovered from — an algorithm update, a botched migration — demonstrates more capability than an unbroken run of wins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this SEO manager resume template free? +

Yes. Edit it in your browser and export to PDF, DOCX, or HTML with no account, no watermark, and no usage limit.

How is an SEO manager resume different from a specialist one? +

It emphasizes strategy, leadership, and revenue over hands-on tasks. Lead with organic growth, pipeline influenced, and the team you built — as the sample does.

Should I mention algorithm updates? +

If you navigated one well, yes. Recovering traffic after a core update is strong evidence of SEO judgment — the template highlights exactly that.
