Why product designers draft in Markdown

UX work is documentation-heavy, and much of it already lives in Markdown-friendly tools. Keeping the résumé there means quick tailoring between research-led and visual-led roles, and a clean export with the portfolio link intact.

What design hiring managers look for

Portfolio and process. The portfolio is the application; the résumé exists to get it opened. Link it at the top, and make sure case studies show the middle of the process — the wrong turns, the constraint, the thing testing disproved — not just polished final screens.

Where you sit on the research-to-visual spectrum. “UX/UI” covers everything from generative research to pixel execution. Teams hire for a point on that range. State yours; ambiguity loses roles rather than keeping options open.

Evidence of shipping. Concepts are easy. What reached production, at what scale, and what changed for users afterwards? Task success, error rates, support tickets, conversion, adoption.

Working with engineering. Handoff practice, design system contribution, how you handle feasibility pushback. Product design is a collaboration role and screens for it.

Terms product design screens match on

  • Tools: Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Framer, ProtoPie, Miro
  • Research: user research, usability testing, interviews, surveys, personas, journey mapping, information architecture, card sorting
  • Craft: wireframing, prototyping, interaction design, visual design, responsive design, design systems, component libraries
  • Quality: accessibility, WCAG, inclusive design, design QA
  • Measurement: A/B testing, task success rate, SUS, conversion, adoption

What weakens a product design résumé

Screens with no problem statement. A case study that opens with a solution reads as decoration.

Claiming research you did not run. If a dedicated researcher ran the sessions and you observed, say that. It is still valuable and far more credible.

No accessibility. Increasingly a hard requirement, especially in regulated sectors and the public sector, and still missing from most portfolios.

An over-styled CV. As with graphic design, the résumé should be plain and parseable. The portfolio is where craft is judged.

Vague team context. Solo designer in a startup and one of twenty in a design org are different jobs. Say which you have done, and which you want.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this UX/UI designer resume template free? +

Yes. Edit it in your browser and export to PDF, DOCX, or HTML with no account, no watermark, and no usage limit.

What matters most on a UX resume? +

Outcomes and process together. Show the metric your design moved and the research behind it. The sample pairs each project with a measurable result.

How important is the portfolio link? +

Essential. UX hiring is portfolio-first — your case studies matter more than the résumé itself, so link them in the header and a dedicated section.
